Weber Shandwick to Build Presence for New Health and Wellness Center at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus

DENVER, CO, April 5, 2011 – Weber Shandwick, one of the world’s leading global public relations firms, has been appointed by the University of Colorado’s School of Medicine to provide fully integrated communications support to help position and launch the school’s new Health and Wellness Center at the Anschutz Medical Campus.

Weber Shandwick Names Gail Heimann President, Chief Strategy Officer; Frank Okunak, Chief Operating Officer

Led out of Weber Shandwick’s Denver and Washington D.C. offices, the firm will help generate awareness of the new Center – expected to open in late spring, 2012 – as a beacon for health promotion and disease prevention throughout Colorado, the nation and the world. The project will span general market and multicultural public relations, brand development and advertising, digital and social media support.

The Health and Wellness Center will bring to life the vision of James O. Hill, PhD., the Center’s executive director, who has long advocated that it will take a multidisciplinary approach to stop the growing girth of the nation.

“For us, Weber Shandwick brings unparalleled experience in health and wellness communications and with a local and national presence, we’re confident that our partnership will allow us to build and maintain a strong presence for the new Health and Wellness Center both in Colorado and across the rest of country,” said Dr. Hill. “We’re pleased to bring this state-of-the-art facility to the Anschutz Medical Campus, and plan to develop innovative ways to help individuals on and off campus make necessary and lasting changes for healthier living and disease prevention.”

Weber Shandwick brings a deep bench of nutrition communications expertise to help launch the new Health and Wellness Center at the Anschutz Medical Campus. We will work with the Center’s leaders to identify and share its research, clinical programs, workplace and community wellness initiatives and other assets with individuals, businesses and communities to affect meaningful changes in healthy living.

The Health and Wellness Center win comes on the heels of another major new business win for Weber Shandwick’s growing downtown Denver office. Most recently, the agency was appointed by Louisville, CO-based Global Healthcare Exchange, LLC (GHX), the largest trading exchange in healthcare worldwide, providing software and services that enable both healthcare providers and suppliers to increase efficiency, lower costs and deliver better patient care. Weber Shandwick’s Denver office will manage their public relations strategy as they continue to strengthen their position as a leader in the healthcare industry.
