Weber Shandwick Chairman Jack Leslie Honored by USADF for 20+ Years of Leadership & Service
Weber Shandwick Chairman Jack Leslie was honored by the U.S African Development Foundation (USADF) for his more than 20 years of leadership and service on the USADF Board of Directors. On June 23, 2021, USADF inaugurated the Jack Leslie Legacy Chairman’s Awards – an annual recognition accompanied by up to $20,000 for high-performing USADF grantees who have demonstrated six core values: leadership, excellence, service, learning, innovation, and execution.
The USADF is an independent U.S government agency that works to invest directly in African grassroots enterprises and social entrepreneurs. Their investments increase incomes, revenues, and jobs by promoting self-reliance and market-based solutions to poverty. The USADF works to create pathways for prosperity for marginalized populations and underserved communities in the Sahel, Great Lakes, and the Horn of Africa.
In its 40th year, the USADF is commemorating and acknowledging Leslie’s impact, leadership and service on its Board of Directors and in guiding the USADF in creating pathways to prosperity for underserved communities in Africa. Each year, on Africa Day (May 25), the organization will award three USADF Jack Leslie Legacy Chairman’s Awards – referred to as LESLIE Grants.
“I’m humbled and thrilled about these awards which are yet another way of championing Africans and their ideas and equipping them with the resources needed to effect change,” Leslie said during the award ceremony. “Each of the awardees should be congratulated for their leadership and service to their communities. They are the ones charting their own paths to prosperity in Africa.”
In 2009, Leslie was appointed to serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors of USADF. Leslie is also a member of the Council of Foreign Relations, and former Chairman of the Board of USA for UNHCR (the UN Refugee Agency), and of USAID’s Advisory Committee for Voluntary Foreign Assistance. In 2016, Leslie received the Orden de San Carlos award, the highest honor given to a non-citizen of Colombia – awarded to foreign civilians, diplomats and military officers who have made outstanding contributions to the Colombian nation.
