Weber Shandwick Appointed Agency of Record by D.O. Ribera del Duero and D.O. Rueda Spanish Wine Regions
NEW YORK, DECEMBER 17, 2014 – Weber Shandwick announced today that the firm has been appointed agency of record for D.O. Ribera del Duero and D.O. Rueda as the two Spanish wine regions unite efforts to bring high quality wines to a new generation of wine drinkers in the United States.
Weber Shandwick will lead a consumer and trade marketing program to elevate the regions and the wines among Millennial and Generation X consumers through an integrated marketing communications strategy, including digital, corporate, trade and consumer public relations, while driving reputation, distribution and sales throughout the U.S.
“Weber Shandwick brings a deep understanding of our story, passion and vision as we look to introduce our narrative and wide variety of premium fine wines to American wine drinkers,” said Felipe Gonzalez-Gordon, Director of D.O. Ribera del Duero and D.O. Rueda. “Given their integrated approach and track record of creative and impactful ideas, we are confident that they will successfully help enhance awareness of our regions among consumers and distributors eager to discover the new generation of Spanish wines.”
“We are excited to partner with D.O. Ribera del Duero and D.O. Rueda as the regions engage the next generation of wine lovers,” said Gail Heimann, President of Weber Shandwick. “Each is an undiscovered gem producing some of the world’s best wines. We look forward to introducing them to Americans – in ways that are as bold and refreshing as the wines themselves.”
Denominación de Origen (D.O.) is a designation awarded through Spain’s wine quality control system, aiding consumers in recognizing regions with D.O. status as producing products of a consistent quality and with specific characteristics. Ribera del Duero, the largest of the several D.O. wine regions in Castilla y León, is internationally known for its red wines. The Rueda region downstream produces high quality white wines that have earned wide international acclaim, ranking as the top wine white region and #3 overall in the Spanish market according to market research by Nielsen.
