David Liu's tenure with Weber Shandwick is defined by a decade of strong growth across the firm’s China operations.
As managing director China, a position he has held since mid 2006, Liu has overall responsibility for Weber Shandwick’s offices in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. For the previous three years, Liu headed the Beijing office, which is easily the largest in China, after earlier leading the corporate practice in Beijing since 2000.
Liu has experience across a very broad corporate client portfolio including MasterCard, Prudential Financial, UBS, Lehman Brothers, Harvest Fund Management Co., Honeywell, Degussa, Boeing, American Airlines, The Bahamas Islands, Agilent Technologies, Microsoft, Symantec, L'Oreal, Swatch, Nike, Bayer Healthcare, Viagra, Haier and Tiens. Under his supervision, Weber Shandwick has also become the leading firm for Procter & Gamble in China, serving more brands than any other agency, including: SK-II, Max Factor, Crest, Pampers, Pantene, Vidal Sassoon, Anna Sui and all P&G fragrance brands.
In 2005, Weber Shandwick named Liu the Managing Director of the Year, an honor that was first introduced that year to recognize outstanding achievement among global office leaders.
Prior to joining Weber Shandwick, Liu led the corporate team of Ketchum Newscan-Beijing, serving nationwide clients such as Ericsson, FedEx and AlliedSignal. He had previously headed Ketchum Newscan's Taiwan operations from 1996 to 1998, leading the communication programs for world renowned multinational corporations such as Boeing, FedEx, De Beers and Roche Pharmaceuticals.
His previous experience includes a ten-year stint with Taiwan's flagship carrier, China Airlines, where he supervised the company's worldwide communications and promotion programs. He actively participated in the special committee that spearheaded the airline's global image renewal and new corporate identity launch in 1994 - the most significant communication projects in the carrier's 40-year history. In addition, Liu served as a senior aide in a Taiwanese legislator’s re-election campaign, helping her win a landslide victory in December 1998.
Today, Liu is a well-known figure in the Chinese PR industry. He is a sought-after speaker at industry events, and his popularity has also reached China’s student population.
