Weber Shandwick has presented to the Brussels community its guide to the upcoming Portuguese Presidency of the European Union,
Inside the Portuguese Presidency – A Guide for Business. At a breakfast meeting attended by policymakers, industry leaders and key EU stakeholders, Weber Shandwick Brussels CEO Josep Catllà launched the guide and introduced Mr Álvaro Mendonça e Moura, Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the European Union, who laid out his country’s objectives for its tenure of the presidency.
Thirteenth in the series, the guide sets out policy priorities for the Portuguese presidency, which takes over from Germany on 01 July 2007. The guide covers 16 different policy areas from agriculture to transport, incorporating topical issues such as energy, climate change, environment and sustainability, security, and corporate governance. Seven years since the Lisbon Agenda was launched during Portugal’s last presidency, the guide examines what the next Portuguese presidency will need to do to move the Agenda forward.
The guide provides the professional insights of Weber Shandwick’s leading consultants, as well as presenting the perspectives of external contributors. Like previous editions, the guide to the Portuguese Presidency presents the opinions of such high-profile contributors as EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson and HE Carlos Holmes Trujillo, Colombian Ambassador to Belgium, Luxembourg and the EU.
Josep Catllà, CEO Weber Shandwick Brussels, said: “
Over the past seven years, Weber Shandwick’s guides to the European Presidency have provided critical insights to the policy objectives of the EU’s rotating presidencies. These guides have set the benchmark, and the present will prove invaluable to anyone interested in understanding the direction of the EU under the Portuguese presidency”.
