When Leonard Chan, a 40-year old logistics consultant, saw a doctor about his chronic back pain, he was prescribed some pain killers and a tube of ointment, and then sent on his way. The pain persisted and after two weeks, he sought a second opinion from a TCM specialist. This time he was prescribed a pack of herbs and medicated plasters. Following a battery of tests and scans, specialists determined that Leonard's back pain had nothing to do with his poor posture or long hours in front of his computer as he had been told - it was actually caused by stones in his kidney.
