KUALA LUMPUR, 29 January 2010 - Weber Shandwick, a leading global public relations firm and among the largest in Malaysia, has appointed Karen Yap as its group account director.
Karen has more than 11 years experience in the media, public relations and advertising fields, spanning a diverse range of industries including financial institution and banking, healthcare, technology, oil and gas, travel and tourism, aviation, consumer, humanitarian NGOs and corporate social responsibility.
As group account director, she will be responsible for overseeing both the Technology and Healthcare practices, working closely with the respective teams to develop and execute a host of communications and media initiatives. She will also be responsible for business development, strategic program planning and developing creative concepts.
Prior to joining Weber Shandwick, Karen was corporate affairs senior manager in Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad, where she was the strategic communications lead for the bank’s Consumer Banking Division. She was also responsible for developing and executing the bank’s first sponsorship of an international marathon for brand-building and multi-stakeholder management.

Karen holds a Bachelor of Law from the University of London and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Criminology from the University of Winnipeg in Manitoba, Canada.
